Notes : Sarah was the ninth of ten children born to Robert & Phebe Bowater (Beals) Sumner of Rowan Co NC, late of Guilford Co NC.
Quaker Meeting Records 1681-1994
New Garden MM, Rowan Co NC, Vol I, Pg 10, NC:
"Sarah Sumner Daughter of the same born ye 8 of ye 8 mo 1765"
... record follows that of her older siblings, children of Robert Sumner and his wife Phebe Beals.
Sarah married Nimrod Fender bef 26 Nov 1785, the son of Christian and Anna Maria (Minter) Fender of NC. Sarah was then disowned from the Quaker faith for 'marrying contrary to discipline.'

The couple became members of the Flat Rock Primitive Baptist Church. Sarah and Nimrod had ten children, four sons and six daughters:
1) Daniel Calvin Fender (1791-1866), m: Sally Grosse.
2) John Fender (1794-1857), m: Martha Toliver.
3) Mary D Fender (1796-1870), m: Richard Clifford Edwards.
4) Nancy Fender (c1798-1854), m: Jacob A Crouse.
5) Susan Fender (1800-1878), m1: Mr Connelly, m2: Mr Cox.
6) Sarah Fender (1802-1871), m: Mr Bass.
7) David Fender (1806-1882), m: Frances Whitaker.
8) Elizabeth Fender (1808-1868), m: Isaac Mitchell.
9) Absalom Daniel Fender (c1809-1849)
10) Frances Fender (1811-1882), m: Mr Beasley.
Some of Sarah's and Nimrod's descendants are:
*Dr Frederick A Fender, inventor of the EEG; Grandson.
*Samuel "Sam" Bass, outlaw; Gr-Grandson.
*Clarence Leo Fender, guitar & amplifier inventor; Gr-Gr-Grandson.
