Notes : Henry B. Poling, age 63 years, died at his home in Needmore last Sunday, February 19, 1928. With the passing away of this native of our county, we suffer a loss that never can be regained. Why? Because he was a friend to all. He had no enemies, and it seemed he took delight in helping the needy. We doubt very much if there is a man in our county who has extended the hand of charity and has done more for the up build of a community than had Mr. Poling while living in his little home town, Needmore.

For more than three score years, Mr. Poling lived in Brown County, and was one of the best known businessmen of the county having been engaged in the general merchandise business for more than forty years at Needmore. He took an active interest in the civic affairs of his community and nation. His personal opinions exemplified his high regard of civic duty and integrity. He was an industrious, loving husband and father.

Henry Barrick Poling was born May 15, 1864, and was the son of Mr. & Mrs. D. W. Poling. He was united in marriage to Harriet Lorena Fleener, June 3, 1892. To this union were born thirteen children-Bertha, Rose, Wilson, Alvenia, Joseph, Esther, Louise, Cecil, Robert, Samuel, Margaret, Alice and Milton, all of whom are surviving except Milton, who died in infancy. He is also survived by the widow, two sisters; Mrs. Ida Legg of Dagmer, Mont., and Mrs. Susan Helfrich of Beford, IN., two brothers, Fletcher Poling of Nashville, and Hyder Poling of Grenora, North Dakota, and fifteen grandchildren.

While not officiated with organized fraternities, he was a brother to all men with whom he came in contact, and had a friendly smile of greeting and a hand of succor for the needy. He had a deep and abiding faith in the goodness of the Almighty. He placed a trust in the common causes and higher ideals of his fellowmen, which won for him many warm friends.

In his passing, his community is looser, but his soul passed on into that real of eternity where there are no infirmities of the flesh and where peace abides with the Giver of Peace.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Vandeventer were held at the M. E. Church in Needmore, Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock. Burial was in the Needmore Cemetery, within a short distance of the home and store of H. B. as he was familiarly known by nearly all citizens of Brown County, and where he lived and served his community.
