Notes : Before the end of 1682 John and Agnes sailed up the Albermarie Sound and up the Pasquotank River. There was a settlement of Quakers there. It is said John came with a grant of 600 acres, and that the Truebloods added to their holdings. We visited this area in 1992 and it is not a highly populated area now. Symons Creek Meetinghouse is marked by a memorial stone and on it we read "SITE OF FIRST MEETING HOUSE ERECTED BY THE RELIGIOUS SOCIETY OF FRIENDS IN NORTH CAROLINA 1705." Symons Creek runs nearby with a sign beside it.
John and Agnes did not survive the hardships of the new land for long. John's will is dated "seventeenth day May 1692" and was probated "... this fourth day of July 1692" Agnes' will is written "on the fifteenth day 9m 1692 and probated "the third day 10m 1692" Mary is eight years old and Amos is under a year old. The father's will says Thomas Symons and Jeremiah Symons are to care for the children and bring them up according to their directions. We do not know the dates of their deaths, but both will were probated in 1692. John's on 7-4-1692 and Agnes's on 1-3 of the same year.
Lincolnshire Archives
"Ten Shillings wch: was given to the pore by John Trueblood was brought to this meeting."- dated 1 9m 1683. The donation probably came from one the following three John Truebloods still living in England. Two John Truebloods living in Cuckney, Nottinghamshire, about twenty-five miles northwest of Brant Brougton. the children of both were christened and believed never a member of the Society of Friends. The third John Trueblood living in the area was the Lincolnshire Trueblood the father of Arnold, who would have had a link with the Society of Friends. His son Arnall(Arnold) was a member of the Society of Friends, joining in the 1650s.. This John appears to have become a resident of Barnby in the Willows, Nottinghamshire, three miles east of Beckingham and joined the Society of Friends some time before 1662. In 1668 the Brant Broughton meeting recorded the death of Mary/Marie Trueblood of Beckingham and in 1883 the death of John Trueblood of Barnby was noted and about six months later the money for the poor was given to the meeting. Thus probably given in due process of the settling of his estate. John had also witnesses several marriages between 1662-1668. but then was not heard from until his death.

Notes : A Collection of the Sufferings of the People Called Quakers (Volume 1 London: L. Hinde, 1753), by Joseph Besse contains these records in the chapter on Lincolnshire:

ANNO 1658 ... Death of A. Trueblood - Arnold Trueblood was committed to Lincoln Goal for Tithes, and after many weeks Confinement died there.

Arnall, baptized 8-9-1618; buried 1-18-1658, married Mary (maiden name unknown). Arnall (Arnold) died a prisoner in Lincoln Castle. In England you were required to pay a tithe (10%) to the Church of England and as a Quaker, he refused.

John Trueblood, born 4th day of the tenth month 1654, Beckingham; recorded in Register of Quaker Monthly Meeting at Broughton, is the John Trueblood, who came to America. and the son of Arnall (Arnold) Trueblood.
William Burditt married Mary Trueblood 3-31-1660. Mary of Beckinham, was a widow with three children. Mary (Trueblood) Burditt was the wife of Arnall Trueblood.
From rent records it appears William Burditt rented the property formerly rented to Arnall Trueblood, after the death of Arnold and the marriage of his widow to William Burditt.
From the Will of William Burditt: Quaker Wills, Lincolnshire Archives,. "... the children of my dear wife Mary, Elizabeth Trueblood, John Trueblood and William Trueblood."
"To William Burditt, Son.: House of Wellbourne which I bought of William Kemp with all the closings & land belonging 2 parts at 22, the rest on death of his brother.
To Richard, Son: 30 pounds to be paid by Thomas when age 25
To Elizabeth Trueblood, daughter, 6 pounds to be paid when 27
To John Trueblood, Son-in-law (stepson sic.) 30 pounds to be paid when 25
To William Trueblood, Son-in-law (sic) 30 pounds to be paid when 24
To Mary, wife
To Richard, brother/Residue
Executors Mary, wife; Richard, Brother. Witnesses Thomas Smith, Thomas Pidd"
Twenty-five years after Arnall's son John's birth, in 1679, John would have received his 30 pounds from the Will of William Burditt, his stepfather. This may have provided the money for the trip to America. It is known though that by 1684, they were in Albemarle because their child Elizabeth is recorded in the Quaker records as born there in 1684. Both John and Agnes died in 1692, the same year their youngest son Amos was born. The Land Grant of 600 acres which was granted in 1694 to the sons of John must have been originally promised to their father John since the sons were only 2 and 5 years old.
