Notes : Description: 1850 census

Samuel and his brother Jacob Henry settled just north of Fort Scott Kansas on the border with Missouri. His name is on the list of voters who voted for the Topeka Constitution and against the extension of slavery on Dec 15 1855. Because of this his farm and home were raided and there lives threatened by pro-slavery Missourians. His brother went back to Indiana soon after, and Samuel followed sometime before 1859. and bought a twenty acre farm in Morgan Co, IN, just over the border with Brown Co. on Indian Creek. Samuel and his brothers Aaron, and Jacob Henry were among the first Volunteers from Indiana to join the Union Army; they were inducted Sept. 12, 1861, at Indianapolis.

Corporal Samuel Fleenor died two months after his induction, of measles, just after the Ball's Bluff engagement in the Maryland campaign. He is buried with the other dead in the churchyard of the Presbyterian church which served as a regimental hospital, in Darnestown. In 1866 the bodies were removed to Arlington Cemetery and now lie in unmarked graves.
